Welcome to the home of the BattleHex Terrain System from Talon Games. This page has been designed to highlight what is both a 3D terrain system and a hex based game board in one.
What is BattleHex?
BattleHex was created for use with your favorite hex-based tabletop miniature game(s), adding a new dimension to
your gaming surface while maintaining the functional use of hex-based systems. Each set of BattleHex terrain includes a 42"x48" game board (made up of 9 base boards,
each side painted and flocked on the top) and 25 hill pieces (in 5 different shapes, painted and flocked as well). A complete list of what is currently available, along with pictures, can be found in our online store.
So how does BattleHex work?
BattleHex is designed to build anything you want to simulate in your game. Each piece connects with the other from
any side to form hills and other terrain features as high as you want. The base boards are printed with a hex pattern while the design of the hill pieces allows easy placement and
use during play without the need of a printed hex pattern, maintaining a more "natural" look to the game board. The sides of each hill piece are painted a earth brown
color allowing for a contrast with the flocking material on top and an end to the golf course look found in other terrain systems. Additional sets can be added together to make
larger game surfaces.
But I like more sloped hills.
Granted, the hills in BattleHex are not sloped like some other terrain systems. BattleHex was designed to be a
much more playable system at a better price. Large hills and canyons are easier to construct and with the addition of a little work on your part, you can purchase unfinished
pieces to build unique additions for your game
How durable is it?
Made from a high strength and durable expanded foam polystyrene, each piece is computer heat cut for precision
and a smooth finished surface. The use of this type of foam allows the pieces to have some give to them (so that they don't chip as easy) while maintaining a rigid appearance that
won't warp. With proper care, BattleHex terrain will last for a long time. BattleHex should be kept away from high heat sources and any oil based paints.
Will there be more?
Of course! We are currently working on several new shapes and pieces to add to the BattleHex terrain system for
even more new and unique creations.
